İmamoğlu, Ankara’daki ilk medya çıkartmasında gelecek seçimi “İktridar kazanamaz ama isterse CHP kaybeder” diyerek “özeleştiri” yaptı.

Ekrem İmamoğlu dün, 21 Ekim’de Ankara’daki ilk medya çıkarmasını yaptı; İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı değil, Türkiye Belediyeler Birliği Başkanı şapkasıyla konuştu. Başlıktaki cümleyi değişik ifadelerle üç kere kullandı; hatta birinde “özeleştiri” diyerek, birinde “istersek kaybederiz” vurgusuyla.

Bu vurgunun bir anlamı vardı. İmamoğlu’nun açıkça söylemeden CHP’nin “bugünkü görünümüyle bir sonraki seçimi de kaybeder” demek istiyordu.

Son zamanlarda katıldığım en kalabalık basın toplantısıydı. İBB’nin Ankara’daki temsilcisi Şükrü Küçükşahin, gazetecilikten gelme deneyimiyle iktidar-muhalefet yanlısı demeden bütün temsilcileri tek tek arayıp davet etmişti. Toplantıyı yöneten İmamoğlu’nun İBB’deki danışmanı Murat Ongun, hangi medya kuruluşundan olduğuna bakmadan kalkan el sırasına göre söz verdi habercilere; kimsede soru kalmayana dek bir buçuk saate yakın sürdü sadece soru-cevap kısmı.

Cumhurbaşkanlığındaki basın toplantılarına, hatta AK Parti’deki basın toplantılarına alınmayan gazetecilerin yanı sıra, o basın toplantılarına da Cumhurbaşkanı Tayyip Erdoğan’ın uçağına da alınan gazeteciler İmamoğlu’na istedikleri soruyu sordu, terslenmeden, iğnelenmeden cevabını aldı.

CHP’nin önündeki sorun ne?

İçeriden bakıldığında Genel Başkan Özgür Özel ve ekibi açısından 2025 baharında tamamlanması öngörülen yeni parti programının kabulüne dek pozisyonunu korumak, önceki Genel Başkan Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu ve çevresi bakımından ise bunun engellenmesi. CHP teşkilatının kendi bünyesinde kaldığı sürece destekleyeceğinin görülmesine rağmen Ankara Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Mansur Yavaş ve Genel Merkeze rağmen teşkilatın desteğine sahip İBB Başkanı İmamoğlu ise anketlerde, çoğu zaman Cumhurbaşkanı Erdoğan’ın da önünde ilk sıralarda ve bu durum Genel Merkez’de Veli Ağababa liderliğindeki ekibin umurunda görülmüyor.

CHP “isterse” kaybeder derken kastedilen görünüm zaten bu; barajlardan şehirlere giden elektrik hatlarının iç dirençle görü ısıtıp enerjiyi heba etmesi gibi bir durum.

Dışarıdan bakıldığındaysa CHP’nin önündeki en büyük ve somut sorun, İmamoğlu aleyhinde istinaf mahkemesinde kararın açıklanması beklenen, siyaset yasağı getirecek olan “ahmak” davası.

İmamoğlu “Yargı tacizine uğradım” diyor, “İktidardan biri çıkıp bu utanç verici duruma son verelim” demesini istiyor ya peki CHP ne yapıyor?

“Ağır bir çürümeye” rağmen

İmamoğlu “İktidar kazanamaz, muhalefet kaybeder” Erdoğan iktidarındaki Türkiye’nin görünümünü “Ağır bir çürüme, ağır bir çöküş yaşıyoruz” diye özetliyor.

“Türkiye Cumhuriyeti vatandaşları legal hayatlarımızı hayatın her alandaki illegal yapılara teslim etmemek zorundayız. Yeni doğan bebeklerin yaşam hakkı, alçakların para hırsıyla elinden alınıyor. Annelerin, babaların bin bir emekle yetiştirdiği gençlerin geleceği mülakatla ellerinden alınıyor. Ekonomik kriz; vatandaşın kimseye muhtaç olmadan insanoğluna uygun bir biçimde kendi emeğiyle geçinme hakkı elinden alınıyor.

“İşte tam da bu noktada milletin, herkesin bazen içinde, bazen haykırarak, bazen acıyı yaşadığında en üst seviyede dile getirerek “artık yeter” dediğini her yerde yaşıyoruz. Bu böyle gidemez. Bir avuç imtiyazlı dışında kimsenin kendini güvende hissetmediği bir ülkede cumhuriyeti kimsesizlerin kimsesi herkesin güvencesi kılmak zorunluluğumuz vardır.”

Peki, CHP’de Özel yönetimi hiç muhalefet yapmıyor da ondan mı İmamoğlu bu gidişle kaybeder diye düşünüyor?

İmamoğlu, Ankara’da konuşurken Özel Edirne’de Selahattin Demirtaş’ı ziyaret ediyor, “el sıkışma açılımına” karşı, beş günlük Doğu-Güneydoğu turuna hazırlanıyordu örneğin.

CHP nasıl kaybeder?

İmamoğlu sanırım öncelikler ve iç kavgalardan bahsediyor.

Örneğin, sadece Özel tarafından değil, Özel yönetimini iktidardan sert eleştiren önceki Genel Başkan Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu tarafından da gündemde tutulan erken seçim konusuna İmamoğlu farklı yaklaşıyor.

“Bir muhalif partinin, her gün “erken seçim, erken seçim” demesi yerine, yani ben CHP’li olarak, partimin her gün ülkenin sorunlarına çözüm önerileri anlatan bir parti olmasını daha değerli bulurum” sözleri hem Özel hem Kılıçdaroğlu’na yönelik.

Türkiye’de erken seçim koşulları görmediğini de söylüyor. “Bütün partilerin oyu düşmüş gözüküyor” dedi, CHP’nin hâlâ “büyük oranda” birinci parti olduğunu ekleyerek; “Bunun da ne anlama geldiğini biliyoruz”. Orada durdu, “ülkede erken seçim ortamı bulunmuyor” demedi ama anlayan anladı.

Örneğin, Özel’in Mansur Yavaş’a “sağ açık”, kendisine “sol açık” demesine açıkça karşı çıktı. “Mansur Bey’in başarısıyla gurur duyarım dese de “Bu mevki işine hiç sıcak” değildi. Takım arkadaşlığı, yol arkadaşlığı olurdu, “bu işin sağ açığı, sol açığı olmazdı”; bunu Özel’e de söylediğini belirtti.

“Mesele” elbette adaylıkla da bağlantılı.

Aday kim olursa kaybeder?

“CHP ne yaparsa kaybeder?” sorusu bir anlamda Erdoğan’ın karşısında “Kimi aday gösterirse kaybeder?” sorusunu da içeriyor.

2023 seçimlerinde Erdoğan’ın karşısına Kılıçdaroğlu değil de İmamoğlu ya da Yavaş çıksaydı Erdoğan’ın kazanamayacağı hâlâ tartışılıyor.

“Şu anda sınıfta kalmış bir iktidar vardır” diyor İmamoğlu; “Biz sınıf atlayabilseydik, 2023 seçimini de kazanırdık.”

Adaylık sorularını duymazlıktan geldiğini şakayla karışık söylüyor. Zamanı gelince “partim karar verir, milletim seçer” basma kalıp bir yanıt ama gerçek durum da bu.

Adaylığın iki boyutu var. Biri Cumhurbaşkanlığı, diğeri de CHP Genel Başkanlığı adaylığı. Yavaş için ikincisi zor; CHP üyesi olsa da CHP teşkilatından gelmediği için. İmamoğlu’nun CHP’nin başına geçmesinin istinaf mahkemesinin hapis ve siyaset yasağı cezasını onaylamasına engel olacağını düşünenlerin Erdoğan’ı hâlâ tanımadıklarını söylemek de mümkün. Erdoğan’ın en çekineceği iki rakipten birini devre dışı bırakmak için, onun hapse girdiğinde beğenilirliğinin daha da artmasından çekineceğine mi güveniyorlar? Bir açılım bulur.

İmamoğlu made a “self-criticism” in his first media appearance in Ankara, saying, “The government cannot win the next election, but the CHP can lose if it wants to.”

Ekrem İmamoğlu made his first media appearance in Ankara yesterday, October 21st; he spoke not with the hat of the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, but with the hat of the President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities. He used the sentence in the title three times with different expressions; once by saying “self-criticism” and once by emphasizing “we can lose if we want”.

This emphasis had a meaning. İmamoğlu wanted to say, without explicitly saying it, that the CHP "will lose the next election with its current appearance."

It was the most crowded press conference I have attended recently. Şükrü Küçükşahin, the representative of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in Ankara, had called and invited all the representatives one by one, regardless of whether they were supporters of the government or the opposition, with his experience in journalism. Murat Ongun, İmamoğlu's advisor at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, who chaired the meeting, gave the floor to the reporters in the order of their hands being raised, regardless of which media outlet they were from; the Q&A session lasted for nearly an hour and a half until no one had any questions left.

In addition to the journalists who were not allowed into the press conferences at the Presidency or even the press conferences at the AKP, the journalists who were allowed into those press conferences and onto President Tayyip Erdoğan's plane asked İmamoğlu any question they wanted and received an answer without being snarky or sarcastic.

This is the media justice dimension of the matter.

Let's turn to CHP.

What is the problem facing the CHP?

When viewed from the inside, it is for the General Chairman Özgür Özel and his team to maintain their position until the acceptance of the new party program, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025, and for the previous General Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his circle to prevent this. Although it is seen that the CHP organization will support him as long as he remains within its own structure, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İmamoğlu, who has the support of the organization despite the General Directorate, are often in the first places in the polls, even ahead of President Erdoğan, and this situation does not seem to matter to the team led by Veli Ağababa at the General Directorate.

When we say that CHP will lose “if it wants”, this is the view that is meant; a situation like the power lines going from dams to cities heating up the view with internal resistance and wasting energy.

When viewed from the outside, the biggest and most concrete problem facing the CHP is the “idiot” case against İmamoğlu, whose verdict is expected to be announced in the court of appeal, which will impose a ban on politics.

İmamoğlu says, “I was harassed by the judiciary,” and wants someone from the government to come forward and say, “Let’s put an end to this shameful situation,” but what is the CHP doing?

CHP is still preparing a campaign to support İmamoğlu.

Despite “severe decay”

İmamoğlu: “The government cannot win, the opposition loses” Erdoğan summarizes the outlook of Turkey under his rule as “We are experiencing a serious decay, a serious collapse.”

“Citizens of the Republic of Turkey, we must not surrender our legal lives to illegal structures in every area of life. The right to life of newborn babies is being taken away from them by the greed of scoundrels. The future of the youth, raised with great effort by mothers and fathers, is being taken away from them with interviews. Economic crisis; the right of the citizen to earn his living with his own labor, in a manner befitting a human being, without being dependent on anyone, is being taken away from him.

"At this very point, we are experiencing everywhere that the nation, everyone, sometimes internally, sometimes out loud, sometimes expressing the pain at the highest level, says, 'enough is enough.' This cannot continue like this. In a country where no one feels safe except for a handful of privileged people, we have an obligation to make the republic the someone of the helpless, the security of everyone."

Well, is it because the CHP Private Administration does not engage in any opposition that İmamoğlu thinks he will lose if things go on like this?

While İmamoğlu was speaking in Ankara, Özel was visiting Selahattin Demirtaş in Edirne and preparing for a five-day East-Southeast tour against the “handshake initiative”, for example.

How can CHP lose?

I think İmamoğlu is talking about priorities and internal conflicts.

For example, İmamoğlu has a different approach to the issue of early elections, which was brought to the agenda not only by Özel but also by former Party Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who harshly criticized the Özel administration when it was in power.

His words, “Instead of an opposition party saying ‘early elections, early elections’ every day, I, as a CHP member, find it more valuable for my party to be a party that presents solutions to the country’s problems every day,” are directed at both Özel and Kılıçdaroğlu.

He also says that he does not see early election conditions in Turkey. “The votes of all parties seem to have fallen,” he said, adding that the CHP is still the first party “largely”; “We know what that means.” He stopped there and did not say “there is no early election environment in the country,” but those who understand will understand.

For example, he openly objected to Özel calling Mansur Yavaş “right winger” and himself “left winger”. Although he said “I would be proud of Mansur Bey’s success”, he was not “at all keen on this position”. There would be teamwork, companionship, “there would be no right winger or left winger in this job”; he stated that he told Özel this as well.

The “issue” is, of course, also connected to the candidacy.

Who will be the candidate who will lose?

The question, “What will CHP do to make it lose?” also includes, in a sense, the question, “Who will it nominate to make it lose?” against Erdoğan.

It is still being debated whether Erdoğan would not have won if İmamoğlu or Yavaş had run against him in the 2023 elections instead of Kılıçdaroğlu.

“There is currently a government that has failed,” says İmamoğlu; “If we could have advanced, we would have won the 2023 elections.”

He half-jokingly says that he ignored the candidacy questions. When the time comes, "my party will decide, my people will choose" is a cliché answer, but that's the reality.

There are two aspects to the candidacy. One is the presidency, the other is the CHP chairmanship candidacy. The second is difficult for Yavaş; although he is a CHP member, he does not come from the CHP organization. It is also possible to say that those who think that İmamoğlu becoming the head of the CHP will prevent the court of appeal from approving the prison sentence and political ban still do not know Erdoğan. In order to eliminate one of the two rivals that Erdoğan will be most wary of, are they counting on him to fear that his popularity will increase even more when he goes to prison? He will find an opening.

While the CHP is preparing for the appeal campaign, those who do not protect their own political stars will certainly lose.
